With a population of over 23,000 residents as of 2020, Forney combines small-town charm with the advantages of proximity to a major metropolitan area.

The school serves not only Forney but also surrounding communities including Talty, the small Kaufman County portion of Mesquite, and some unincorporated areas of Kaufman County. Forney High School has a rich history of serving the educational needs of its community. Over the years, the area has experienced significant growth, leading to the expansion of educational facilities. In May 2007, due to immense population growth, a bond was approved to begin construction of a second high school in the district. US Highway 80 now serves as the boundary between Forney High School and North Forney High School, which opened its doors to freshmen and sophomores in 2009, with its first graduating class in 2012.

The school has adapted to the changing landscape of education while maintaining its commitment to excellence. In 2011, it was rated “Academically Acceptable” by the Texas Education Agency, and in more recent years, it has continued to improve its academic standing. The district as a whole received an “Exemplary” rating in 2010 based on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills.

Forney High School offers a comprehensive educational experience with a focus on preparing students for college and careers. The school provides Advanced Placement (AP) courses and a Gifted & Talented program, enabling students to challenge themselves academically.
